Bioethanol Burner Safety: Enjoy the Warmth, Ensure Your Safety
Bioethanol fireplaces offer a beautiful and convenient way to add ambiance to your home and garden. However, like any fire source, bioethanol requires proper handling for safe use. Here’s what you need to know:
Before You Burn:
- Read It First: Always refer to your bioethanol burner’s manual for specific instructions and safety guidelines.
- Location, Location, Location: Place your burner on a stable, level surface away from flammable materials like curtains, furniture, and rugs. Maintain a minimum distance of 1 meter around the burner.
- Fuel Choice: Only use the type of bioethanol fuel recommended by your burner’s manufacturer. Never substitute other fuels. biofirefuel is a very high quality bioethanol and is recommended by fireplace and burner manufacturers.
- Storage Matters: Store bioethanol fuel in its original, sealed container in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat sources. Keep it out of reach of children and pets.
Lighting Up Safely:
- Extinguish First: Always ensure the burner and surrounding area are completely cool before refilling. Never add fuel to a lit or hot burner. Wait at least 15-30 minutes for cool down.
- Clear Spills: Clean up any spills immediately with a damp, non-flammable cloth. Allow the area to dry completely before refilling.
- Tools of the Trade: biofirefuel is supplied with an easy pour, no spill bottle top (Easyfill®) and is simple to use (see our instruction video below showing how to open the child proof cap). If the easy pour bottle is unavailable you can use a long-necked container or funnel specifically designed for bioethanol refueling.
- Light it Right: Never use lighters or matches to ignite the burner. Use a long-reach igniter or the provided lighting tool as per the manufacturer’s instructions. Light the fire at arm’s length.
Safety While Enjoying the Fire:
- Never Leave Unattended: Do not leave a burning bioethanol fireplace unattended, especially around children or pets. Extinguish the fire before leaving the room or going to sleep.
- Keep a Watchful Eye: Maintain a safe distance from the burner while lit. Hair, clothes, and flammable objects should always be kept away from the flames.
- Ventilation is Key: Ensure proper ventilation in the room while the bioethanol fire is burning. Do not block vents or airflow around the burner.
- Extinguish Properly: Use the provided extinguishing tool to safely douse the flames. Never use water to extinguish a bioethanol fire.
Additional Safety Tips:
- Invest in a Carbon Monoxide Detector: Install a CO detector in the room where your bioethanol burner is used.
- Regular Maintenance: Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for cleaning and maintaining your bioethanol burner.
- Never Modify: Do not alter the design or construction of your bioethanol burner.
By following these safety guidelines, you can enjoy the warmth and ambiance of your bioethanol fireplace with peace of mind. Remember, a little caution goes a long way in ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience.
